Be Still my Heart
In a world filled with noise and distractions, it's easy to lose our spiritual focus. When life's challenges overwhelm us, we often forget the fundamental truths that can anchor our souls. Today, Pastor Christine explores how to reset the cadence of our souls and find peace in God's presence.
The Power of God's Presence in Difficult Times
Sometimes we need a powerful reminder of God's faithfulness. Recently, I witnessed this firsthand when my son was rushed to the emergency room with what doctors diagnosed as acute compartment syndrome. The prognosis was grim - surgery seemed inevitable, and his ability to walk normally, let alone play football again, was in question.
In that moment of crisis, I had a choice: give in to fear or stand firm in faith. I chose to pray and believe God's promises. I reached out to intercessors and stood firm on God's Word. After 15 hours in the hospital, without surgery, my son began to recover. Three weeks later, when doctors said he wouldn't walk for six weeks, he ran 45 yards on the football field.
This wasn't just a miracle for my son - it was a demonstration of what happens when we align ourselves with the Way Maker and stand firm in faith.
How Do We Hear God's Voice in Chaotic Times?
In 1 Kings, we read about Elijah hiding in a cave - afraid, weary, and overwhelmed. He expected God to appear in dramatic displays of power, but instead, God spoke in a "still, small voice." This teaches us something profound: to hear God, we must quiet the noise. We must:
-
Shut out negative influences
-
Silence our anxious thoughts
-
Return to the basics of God's Word
The Lord spoke clearly: "I am in the still, small voice." This means we need to create space in our busy lives to hear Him speak.
Psalm 91 reminds us that God is our refuge, our fortress, our shelter. When we declare these truths, we're not just speaking words - we're releasing power into our atmosphere that "annihilates demonic debris" and brings healing, strength, vision, and provision. The promise is clear: "No harm will come near me, my house, or my family." This doesn't mean weapons won't form against us, but it does mean they won't be successful. The problem is that we often focus on where attacks have succeeded rather than on God's promises.
Why Do We Feel Spiritually Unstable?
Many believers are walking in weariness, false understanding of God’s power, critical attitudes and wavering faith. When we stand firmly on God's Word, we become immovable. Picture being held firmly between two strong supports - you cannot be moved. That's what happens when we stand on God's promises: "Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
What Happens When We Step Out of Alignment?
Because we have free will, we can choose to step away from God's protection. We can choose defeat, negativity, and rumination. When we do this, God doesn't leave us - He remains positioned to help us. But as a gentleman, He won't force Himself on us. Sometimes we have to crawl back to the cross and get back to the basics of God's Word. The enemy wants to keep our focus downward, but God says, "Wake up, O sleeper. The joy of the Lord is your strength."
How Can We Reset Our Spiritual Cadence?
Think of a rocking chair - it's designed to carry our weight while providing gentle, rhythmic movement. Similarly, the Holy Spirit carries the weight of our problems while we rest in Him.
To reset our spiritual cadence:
-
Quiet yourself from busyness
-
Return to Scripture
-
Speak God's promises over your situation
-
Lean not on your own understanding
-
Acknowledge God in all your ways
Remember: "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." If you need healing, write healing scriptures on cards or record them on your phone. Listen to and declare them repeatedly until they become part of you.
How Do I Deal with Negative Thoughts and Relationships?
Some of us are dealing with critical thoughts, judgmental attitudes, and unhealthy relationships. These things exalt themselves against the knowledge of Christ. When gossip or criticism comes your way, redirect it. If someone wants to talk negatively about another person, suggest going directly to that person instead. Hold people accountable according to Scripture.
The enemy is "sneaky, sneaky, sneaky" - always coming to kill, steal, and destroy. That's why our minds must stay fixed and stable on God's Word and sound relationships.
Keep in mind that you may be the only Jesus someone sees today. If you're too consumed with your own problems, you might miss an opportunity to be Christ's presence to someone else.
When we shift our focus from our circumstances to God's promises, everything changes. The joy of the Lord becomes our strength, and we move from a place of heaviness to a place of celebration. As we reset the cadence of our souls to align with God's rhythm, we find the peace, strength, and joy we've been seeking all along.
