It's in The House

Faith is more than just believing in God—it's about taking action when He calls, even when it doesn't make sense. Many believers struggle with delayed obedience, missing out on the incredible blessings that come from immediate surrender to God's will.

Living by faith means trusting God completely, even when His instructions seem impossible or uncomfortable.

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as "confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." This isn't passive belief—it's active trust that moves us to obey God immediately.

Delayed obedience is actually disobedience. When God speaks clearly to our hearts, hesitation often stems from fear, comfort zones, or trying to figure everything out ourselves. We make excuses like "when I get here, I'll do it" or "when I have more, I'll give more." The truth is, God doesn't need us to have all the pieces figured out. He simply wants our immediate "yes" to His voice.

God consistently calls us to places and actions that feel impossible because He wants to grow our faith. Just as a muscle grows stronger under resistance, our spiritual faith develops when we're stretched beyond what feels safe or reasonable.

One powerful example of faith stretching comes through generosity. When we're called to give beyond our means, it challenges our trust in God's provision. This isn't about the money itself—God doesn't need our resources. He wants our hearts and our faith. For my wife and me, we jumped into a generous lifestyle with $2.12 in the bank and $125,000 in debt. God challenged us to give $10,000 in one year, which seemed impossible. Yet obedience to God's call for generosity opened doors to supernatural provision that lasted for years.

When we surrender completely to God and live by faith, we gain access to incredible spiritual benefits:

  • Uncommon Joy and Peace

- Joy: Proverbs 10:28 says "The prospect of the righteous is joy"

- Peace: Philippians 4:7 promises peace "which transcends all understanding"

  • Divine Protection and Provision

- Freedom from anxiety about basic needs

- Supernatural provision in impossible circumstances

- Protection during chaotic times

  • Spiritual Authority and Power

- Authority over circumstances (Luke 10:19)

- Power through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)

- Access to God's forgiveness and grace

With these benefits in mind, how do we overcome the "I have nothing" mentality? Like the widow in 2 Kings 4 who claimed to have "nothing except a small jar of oil," we often focus on what we lack rather than what God has already given us. The key is recognizing that everything we need is already within our reach when we're surrendered to Jesus.

When the widow surrendered her small jar of oil—likely her family's last hope for survival—God multiplied it beyond imagination. As long as she had empty jars, the oil kept flowing. God took her one small offering and made it more than enough to pay all debts and live comfortably.

Faith always produces results, while disobedience never does. When we step out in faith, we gain access to "unfair advantages" in life—not because of who we are, but because of who we know and serve.

While earthly economies fluctuate and fail, heaven's economy never changes. God's resources are unlimited, and His provision is guaranteed for those who trust Him completely. The challenge isn't God's ability to provide—it's our willingness to believe and act on that belief.

Have you been practicing delayed obedience? Whether it's in your relationships, finances, career, or spiritual life, choose to say "yes" immediately to His voice. Stop focusing on what you don't have and start surrendering what you do have to God. Remember, He doesn't need your resources—He wants your heart and your faith. When you give Him your "small jar of oil," He can multiply it beyond your imagination.
