Made for Mondays Pt 1

Do you dread Monday mornings? You're not alone. Studies show that 82% of people don't like their jobs, yet we spend 40% of our lives at work. But what if God never intended for you to dread nearly half of your existence? What if you were actually made for Mondays?

Many of us have bought into the "Thank God It's Friday" mentality, viewing work as something to endure rather than enjoy. We see our jobs as separate from our spiritual lives, believing God stays home while we go to work. This couldn't be further from the truth.

The Bible doesn't differentiate between secular and sacred work because it's all sacred when Christ is present in everything we do. The reason you may hate your job isn't necessarily the people, politics, or problems—it's because you're missing God's presence and purpose in what you do.

In Luke 10:40, we see Martha hosting Jesus for dinner. Despite being in the same room as the Son of God, she received none of the benefits of His presence. Why? She was distracted by:

- Tasks - She put her head down and went straight to work

- People - She became frustrated with her sister Mary's lack of help

- Discontentment - She complained to Jesus about her circumstances

Just because Martha was distracted didn't mean Jesus was distant. He was right there, understanding her feelings. Similarly, just because you don't feel God at your work doesn't mean He's far away—Christ is in you, which means He's in your cubicle, on the assembly line, in the boardroom.

Throughout Scripture, God revealed Himself to people while they were working:

- Sarah was washing dishes when God revealed she'd birth a nation

- Moses encountered the burning bush while tending sheep

- Ruth met her future husband while gleaning in the fields

- David received inspiration for the Psalms while shepherding

- The disciples were fishing when Jesus called them

God does some of His greatest works at work, and you might be missing it.

Three Truths About Work and God

1. When You're Working, You're Walking in God's Design

Work wasn't part of sin's curse—it was part of paradise. Genesis 2:15 shows us that "the Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it." Work existed before The Fall and was part of God's perfect design.

God created work for two main reasons:

Character Development : Bad bosses, broken cultures, and difficult seasons create the perfect climate for growing patience, kindness, self-control, and stewardship. We see an example of this concept in Psalm 105:17-19 which describes Joseph’s testing.

Addressing Our Calling : There are three ways people view work—as a job (obligation), a career (pathway to security), or a calling (opportunity to add value). When you see your work as a calling, you'll excel and find deeper fulfillment.

2. When You're Working, God Is Working With You

You're not alone in your work. God didn't create work just to leave you to handle it by yourself—He wants to be your partner. Genesis 2 reveals that God partnered with Adam in the working of the Garden, causing rain to fall while Adam tended and kept it.

God's motive isn't just production; it's the joy of partnership. He could have made everything self-sustaining, but He chose to wait for His partner—you—to show up.

John 15:5 reminds us: "Yes, I am the vine and you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit... for apart from me, you can do nothing."

3. When You're Working, You're Worshiping

Work is worship. Colossians 3:23 instructs us to "work willingly at whatever you do as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."

Christians should be the best teachers, doctors, landscapers, sales directors, CEOs, and Uber drivers. People should want to hire Christians because they understand that work is worship and they give their best in everything they do.

Your work isn't just about a paycheck or completing tasks—it's part of God's grand story. He places His followers in specific jobs and locations to expand His kingdom and point others to His son. Through your attitude and professional excellence, you become salt and light, showing others that God hasn't forgotten them.

Whatever job God has placed before you is your calling. You were made for Mondays because your work has eternal significance when viewed through God's perspective.
