One Word
As we close this year and prepare to step into a new one, it's natural to reflect on God's faithfulness and look ahead with expectation. This time between Christmas and New Year offers a unique opportunity to pause, celebrate what God has done, and prepare our hearts and make room for what He wants to do next.
The concept of "making room" goes far beyond physical space. When we make room in our lives, we're creating capacity for God to work in new and greater ways. Just as a growing church adds services to accommodate more people, we need to examine our own lives and ask: Where do I need to make room for what God has in mind for me?
Making room requires intentionality. One way to do this is to ask God for a word or short phrase for your life this year. This word or phrase can become a filter or guide for your year and will give you focus. When focus meets purpose, something powerful begins to happen. It will clarify vision and turn it into actionable steps. As you experience an increase in your capacity, you will find you are more useful for the Kingdom of God.
As God reveals His word for you this coming year, it will give divine direction in all aspects of your life. Look it up and meditate on what it means. Use the dictionary and scripture to understand it better. Write it down and declare it over your life. Share it with others and be accountable to it.
God is already preparing people and opportunities that are on their way to you. He creates things for the purpose of growth. God originally made creation for it to be fruitful. It was the very first blessing spoken over mankind and recorded in Genesis - be fruitful and multiply. Being fruitful, producing good results, is not optional for the Kingdom of God. Our purpose involves being effective - not just active. As God reveals His word to you for the New Year and as you lean into that word, you will find you are making a real impact. You will influence other lives and you yourself will grow and be healthier in your faith and in your life. .
Making room for God's blessings requires both spiritual and practical preparation. Here are key areas to consider:
-
Spiritual Preparation - Prayer and fasting create space in our hearts for God to speak and work. When we fast, we're making room by removing distractions and focusing our attention on God. This spiritual discipline helps us hear His voice more clearly and align our hearts with His purposes.
-
Community and Connection - Growth often happens in a community. Being part of a church family, participating in small groups, and building relationships with other believers creates an environment where God can work through others to bless and challenge us.
-
Sharing our Story - Our testimony is powerful. When we share what God has done in our life, we create room for others to experience His goodness. Your story can be the key that unlocks someone else's faith and sets them free from whatever they're struggling with.
Start this new year by spending time in prayer, asking God to give you His word for your year and watch as your capacity increases. Consider beginning a time of fasting to clear spiritual space for God to speak to you about the new year. Remember that making room isn't just about removing things - it's about creating space for God to fill with His goodness.
God has great things in store for you and for those your life influences. He is faithful, and He is already working to bring about His purposes in your life. Make room, and watch what He will do.
