The Miracle Mindset

In a world filled with routine, mess, and chaos, it's easy to forget that we serve a miraculous God. When life feels ordinary or overwhelming, we need to shift our perspective and develop what can be called a "miracle mentality" - a mindset that expects God to do the extraordinary in our everyday lives.

The Bible tells us that God "is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us" (Ephesians 3:20). When Scripture says God is "able," it means He has divine power and uncommon skills. The word "do" means to perform, to finish, to accomplish.

This reveals something powerful: God always places assignments on His children that are beyond what we could accomplish on our own. These divine assignments require God's supernatural intervention - His "super" on our "natural."

The Three M's That Cloud Our Vision

In the midst of life's challenges, we often lose sight of God's miraculous nature due to three things:

The Mundane - the regular, common, and bland aspects of daily life. Think about trips to the DMV or dental appointments - necessary but uninspiring routines that can dull our expectation for the extraordinary.

The Messy - situations that leave us disheveled, confused, and unkempt. The COVID pandemic exemplified this kind of disruption that throws our lives into chaos.

The Madness - escalated messiness that has grown out of control, like political turmoil, wars, and societal upheaval that seems to reach new heights.

What Is a Miracle Mentality?

A miracle is something uncommon, not regular - it's a wonder, a marvel, something astonishing. A miracle mentality is a mindset, point of view, perspective, disposition, reasoning, and attitude that shifts everything about how we approach life.

This mentality recognizes that where we are unable, God will enable our "unables" and make us able. When we are weak, He is strong.

Fixed Mindset vs. Growth Mindset

Stanford University researcher Carol Dweck identifies the difference between fixed and growth mindsets. A fixed mindset says:

  • "I'm already 28, I'm getting old"

  • "I got divorced and I'll never be the same"

  • "I'll only ever make $30,000 a year"

This thinking keeps us stuck, permanent, fastened, and anchored in limitation.

A growth mindset is developing, extending, maturing, stretching, and blooming. It recognizes that God takes us "from glory to glory to glory" and "from dimension to dimension to dimension."

Your mindset is yours to set. What you believe is what you will become.

From Believing to Expecting

There's a difference between believing and expecting miracles. Many people hope for miracles, but hoping is passive. Expecting means you actively look for God's intervention.

When you go to Taco Bell, you expect tacos. When you visit Krispy Kreme, you expect donuts. We need to reach the point where we expect miracles from our miracle-working God just as naturally.

To develop this expectation, immerse yourself in stories of God's power:

  • Read the Gospels repeatedly

  • Study the Book of Acts over and over

  • Learn from those who have moved in God's power

  • Remember that Jesus said, "You will do the things that he did and even greater" (John 14:12)

It's important to understand that healing and miracles can happen in different ways. Some people get healed instantly and some get healed gradually. Some don't receive physical healing but go to heaven. This doesn't diminish God's power or our faith. We pray and believe because we care about people and because God is able.

How Do We Stay Steady in Unsteady Times?

When facing attacks in areas of family, finances, or faith, we need strategies to maintain our miracle mentality:

  • Get into God's presence more often

  • Listen to worship music that lifts your spirit

  • Use Bible apps to hear Scripture repeatedly

  • Build your faith while starving your doubts

  • Stay connected to a community of believers

Instead of accepting limitations as permanent, begin expecting God to do something extraordinary in your life. God is miracle-working 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Your mindset is yours to set, and what you believe is what you will become. Don't settle for a discount version of yourself when God has assignments that require His supernatural power working through you.
