Divine Delays

Have you ever faced situations that just don't seem to resolve as quickly as you'd like? Perhaps you're waiting for a relationship to improve, a business to grow, or to meet the right person. It's easy to become frustrated when things don't happen according to our timeline. But what if these delays aren't working against you, but actually working for you?

Just because something is uncomfortable doesn't mean it's not where you're supposed to be. God often uses difficult circumstances to develop our character and prepare us for what's ahead. As Robert Schuler wisely said, "Tough times don't last, but tough people do." One of the most challenging tests we all face is the test of time. We pray for immediate resolution, but God's timetable is different from ours. Why? Because God is more interested in changing us than in changing our circumstances.

Remember the Israelites? God deliberately took them the long way from Egypt through the wilderness to the Promised Land. It wasn't because He wanted to make their lives miserable. He knew they weren't prepared for the battles ahead and they needed that journey to transform them. The shorter route would have led to their defeat.

Similarly, when we face delays, it's often because God is preparing us for something greater. Those uncomfortable situations, difficult people, and unexpected roadblocks are developing qualities in us that we'll need for the next level. So, how should we respond to Divine Delays?

1. Trust God's Perspective

God sees the entire picture while we only see a small portion. He knows what's around the bend, where the shortcuts are, and what dangers lie ahead. When we trust His perspective, we can remain at peace even when we don't understand. Proverbs 20:24 reminds us: "The Lord directs our steps. So why try to understand everything along the way?"

2. Embrace Where You Are

Instead of fighting against your current circumstances, embrace them. Paul didn't pray for God to remove difficulties; he prayed for strength to endure with a good attitude. Colossians 3:12-15 instructs to "clothe yourselves with tender-hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. Make allowance for each other's faults and forgive anyone who offends you... Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us together in perfect harmony."

3. Keep Doing the Right Thing

The longer you do the right thing when the wrong thing is happening, the higher God will take you. Every sacrifice, every time you overlook a wrong, every time you take the high road—God notices. Don't be discouraged if you don't see immediate results. Your faithfulness doesn't go unnoticed. God is preparing you for something amazing.

Hebrews 4 tells us that "only we who believe can enter His rest." When you believe that God has your best interest at heart, you can experience peace even in difficult circumstances. This doesn't mean you won't face challenges, but it means you can face them with confidence. Romans 15:13 says, "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

If there's one key takeaway, it's this: When you're at rest, you're passing the test! Those divine delays aren't happening to you; they're happening for you. The promotion you didn't get, the door that closed, the relationship that ended—God sees the bigger picture and is working all things together for your good.

Are you in a time of divine delays? Ask God for His perspective. Spend time in His presence and hear what He has to say. Trust God for His timing. Embrace your circumstances and stay faithful to what you know is right. Praise God for what He is doing in and through your life!

This week, when you face a delay or disappointment, practice saying, "God, I trust you. This isn't happening to me; it's happening for me." Enter into His rest, and watch how your perspective—and your life—begins to change.

Remember: Divine delays are not denials. They're simply part of God's perfect timing for your life.
