This Is Our Moment- Part 3
God is doing something powerful in this season of transition. As we prepare to move into a new building, it's important to recognize that this isn't just about changing locations—it's about stepping into a new divine purpose. God isn't just moving us geographically, but positioning us prophetically in this moment. He is giving us a new assignment, a new calling, stepping out of what was, into what He has for us next.
God is doing a new thing and we can feel the expectation of where He is taking us. Throughout Scripture, when God was revealing new assignments or purpose, He would often mark the occasion with name changes:
- God changed Abram ("exalted father") to Abraham ("father of many nations")
- Sarai ("my princess") became Sarah ("mother of nations")
- Jacob ("trickster") was renamed Israel ("prince who wrestles with God and prevails")
- Simon ("reed" or "unstable") was called Peter ("rock")
God doesn't name you based on where you've been, but where you're going. He names you by your future, not by your past. It’s about what is eternal and it is a Kingdom assignment.
In a new season, we need to seek God’s wisdom. When Solomon was made king over Israel, he asked God for wisdom instead of fame or fortune. One symbol of wisdom repeatedly referred to in Scripture is the tree. Proverbs 3:18 says, "Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly." This isn't a tree of hype—it's a tree of life. It didn't grow overnight but is the result of years, even generations of growth. In Scripture, trees symbolize:
- Deep roots and longevity; being planted
- Bearing fruit in every season and condition
- Legacy for generations to come
- Strength that thrives even in dry seasons
- Provision that feeds and sustains
The tree as a symbol is to show a canopy of wisdom, safety, direction, and discernment over a generation. But the tree was never meant to stand alone. It was planted for a purpose—to cover the community, a city if you will. A city represents more than a skyline. It represents souls. Matthew 5:12 says, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden." God isn't just building a crowd in this church. He's building a city, a community, a spiritual ecosystem of wisdom that influences business, family, government, education, and the arts. We're not here just to build a sanctuary, but to build a city of light.
We declare that we will not be retreating from culture, but we are a "builder church" that redeems culture. God is calling us to be a tree of wisdom that blesses the city. When the church walks in wisdom, the city flourishes. We declare we are a city under the anointing. We are people of purpose living under the principles of wisdom.
This is a threshold moment where what used to be good gives way to what's becoming great. As Proverbs 43:19 says, "Behold, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it?" God is renaming this house to match our new mantle. Motor City is a location, but we are moving forward into our future purpose that is bigger than a location. The mission is changing, the mantle is shifting, and the vision is expanding.
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3). We're building a church founded on wisdom, covering a city, rooted in depth rather than trends. On September 7th, we will become Wisdom City Church—not just a rebrand, but a recommissioning and a fresh mantle.
This moment of transition isn't just for our church—it's for you personally. God may be positioning you for a new season, a new assignment, or a new level in your life, family, or business.
This is not just a message about a church. Are you in transition? Ask yourself:
- What area of my life needs God's wisdom right now?
- Am I perceiving the "new thing" God might be doing in my life?
- What name or identity from my past do I need to leave behind to embrace what God is calling me to become?
- Ask God how you can position yourself to step into divine purpose rather than just going through motions.
This week, commit to asking God for wisdom in a specific area of your life. Wisdom is the master key and is heaven’s strategy for earth’s success. If you get wisdom, you get the whole package. James 1:5 promises, "If you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, and it shall be given." Wisdom is available and accessible. Remember, every area of lack in your life can be traced back to a wisdom deficiency. Wisdom is the principal thing—therefore, get wisdom!
